TRACK INSPECTION FOR THE MAIDEN NIGERIAN GRAND PRIX

In preparation for the forthcoming maiden Nigerian Grand Prix (NGP), which is scheduled to flag off on the 11th of April, 2020 in Abuja sanctioned by the Nigeria Auto Sport Association (NASA NG) in collaboration with the FCT Auto Sports Association, members of the Nigeria Auto Sports Association alongside its stakeholders inspected the proposed race track on the 18th of January, 2020. In attendance was the Director of the FCT Sports Council, and other Stakeholders representatives who include the;

  • FCT Police Command
  • FCT Fire Service
  • Directorate of Road and Traffic Services (VIO)
  • Federal Road Safety Corps (FCT Command)
  • Garki Hospital (ER Partner)

 And NASA NG’s media partner;

The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and SuperSport Nigeria were also in attendance.

  • While addressing the news men, the Director of sports Dilichukwu Oyedinma commended the members of the Nigeria Auto Sports Association   for their painstaking preparation towards the Grand Prix. She stated that   the country was ready for the event adding that its uniqueness and potential is what the FCT and Nigerians have been waiting for. The president of the Nigeria Auto Sports Association, Mr. Bolaji Olure also   stressed that the event albeit being the first of its kind in the country isn’t   new to the world. He was full of praise for everyone in attendance especially   the Department of Sports for its relentless support of the Association.

In his address, the chairman of the FCT Auto Sports Association and a vice president (Technical and Engineering) of Nigeria Auto Sport Association, Mr. Olamilekan Adekola thanked the members of the press for showcasing this landmark event adding that it will only get better in the future. He explained to everyone in attendance the peculiarities of the track to their full understanding.

The entourage moved round the track, making stops at several intersections to get acquainted with the track. Questions were answered and stakeholders exchanged ideas on how the track could be optimized. The team was then entertained by a member of the Association who displayed a burnout at the start/finish line of the proposed track to the awe of everyone in attendance.

The Nigerian Grand Prix has been postponed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
